    Patios

Adding a patio to a barren yard or replacing a cement slab with a designed hardscape is a big project, but one that is always worthwhile. With a customized patio, homeowners enjoy expanded living space, room to stretch beyond the indoors, and the opportunity to gaze upon the bounty around them. At Santoro Cement in Southeast Michigan, we design patios that suit lifestyle, aesthetics, budget, and vision.

    Common Patio Materials

    Common Patio Materials

One of the most reliable and commonly used patio materials is stamped concrete. This cement solution delivers a decorative look and can be crafted in a wide variety of textures, patterns, and colors. Stamps are embossed or imprinted into concrete to create a material that looks like it was crafted with:

    • Stone: Whether you are drawn to flagstone or cobblestone, the look will be natural through stamped concrete. This version is budget-friendly and comes in multiple shades, from grays to browns. There is also an option to choose a mixture of shapes and sizes.
    • Slate: Ashlar slate is a popular stamped concrete pattern, closely resembling the beauty of natural slate but it serves as a cost-effective alternative that is incredibly durable. Some homeowners are also attracted to cut slate, which is texturized to look like genuine slate, both seamless and subtle.
    • Wood: Who would build a patio out of wood? Some property owners, certainly, depending on location and cosmetic considerations. However, if you want the strength and power of cement underfoot, opt for cedar wood plank made of stamped concrete. This material gives the illusion of real wood planks or reclaimed timber.

    Prime Patio Locations

Depending on the size of your lot, the location of entrances and exits, and level of convenience, patios can be positioned just about anywhere. Some of the smartest places to put this addition to outdoor living include:

    • From the slider: If your lowest level is flush with the backyard, it makes sense to have a cement patio begin at the basement sliding door and move out from there.
    • Below deck: If there is standing room underneath your deck, consider this a natural place to begin your newest outdoor living enhancement.
    • Pool adjacent: Pools are often set back from a home, separating the entities from each other. Connect them with a water-friendly patio that minimizes grass and debris going into the water and allows for a safe path to dry land.
    • Kitchen to backyard: A kitchen that leads to stamped concrete offers a path to a built-in grill, kitchen, or firepit for outside cooking.
    • Stair landing: A multiple level home with a steep grade may have a few sets of stairs leading to ground level. What a nice landing to step onto a smooth patio.

    Design Your Patio

    Design Your Patio

Besides choosing the stamped concrete design for your patio, there are other important elements to consider in the design phase that will impact the final look. Here are some questions to discuss with your concrete expert:

    • What colors can I choose from for my patio?
    • Are there any colors you would reject or recommend?
    • Should the patio match or complement my home?
    • How long will the materials last?
    • What do I need to do to clean the patio?

Ultimately, the most important fact to remember is that the beauty of your patio material is easily customized to your preferences. It is important to keep your professional’s experience and guidance in mind, but ultimately the design is up to you.

Santoro and Tile Masonry of South Lyon, Michigan just completed repairing a monument in the Pinckney cemetery. The work is amazing as the monument was constructed in 1910. They were able to match the stone and stabilize the fallen walls. Great job!!!

If I could give 10 stars, I would. Mike is a true professional. He communicated eastly and quickly was always on time. He was right on schedule and got all the work completed on time or before. We have a community of 54 units and most of them needed something done. Sidewalks, driveways and patios. He did it all.HIs crew was great too. All were friendly and helpful. AND Mike walked the property with me when they were finished to make sure everything was cleaned up. It looks great. And to top it off, his prices were the best we were quoted!I can't recommend him enough.

Santoro Masonry and Tile removed a cemented slate walkway and installed new tile in the walkway and kitchen in our midcentury home. The work looks great and they were prompt and courteous. Their attention to detail in every facet of their work is impressive. In the dozen years we’ve owned our home, we’ve had multiple contractors for different projects, and they are one of the most dilligent in scheduling and completing the work that we’ve had, and at a very competitive rate. I recommend them to anyone needing similar work in the area.
