Concrete & Stamped Concrete Care: First 30 Days

If you’ve recently installed a new concrete driveway or stamped patio, proper aftercare is essential—especially here in Michigan, where temperature swings and harsh winters can take a toll. Follow these tips to help your concrete cure properly and last for years.

First 30 Days: Proper Curing Matters

Concrete needs time to strengthen. The first month is the most critical period.

What to Do:

  • Wait 24–48 hours before walking on it
  • Avoid vehicles and heavy equipment for 7–10 days
  • Keep grills, planters, rugs, and furniture off the surface during this period
  • In warmer months, water your concrete for the first 5 days (if recommended by your contractor)

What to Avoid:

  • Do not use de-icing salts or chemicals
  • Don’t drag furniture or heavy objects
  • Keep the surface clean and free of debris

Long-Term Maintenance: Keep It Looking New

Michigan’s weather can be tough on concrete. Ongoing care will help preserve its strength and appearance.

1. For Sealed Concrete, reapply sealer every 2-3 years or when signs of wear appear.

  • Helps protect against moisture, stains, and wear
  • Enhances color and texture for stamped concrete

2.Clean Seasonally

  • Sweep or blow off dirt, leaves, and debris
  • Use a mild detergent and water when necessary
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or high pressure power washing

3. Skip the Salt

  • Avoid salt or de-icers, especially during the first year
  • Use sand for winter traction instead

4. Prevent Damage

  • Avoid dragging sharp or heavy items across the surface

Winter Care for Stamped Concrete

  • Never use salt-based de-icers
  • Use sand to prevent slipping
  • Shovel snow gently, plastic shovels are best
